After a two-year hiatus, the 48th Annual Muir Beach Volunteer Firemen’s Barbecue returned on Sunday, May 29 from noon to 5pm at Santos Meadows on Frank Valley Road in Muir Beach. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR COMING! There was delicious food, fantastic live music, tasty craft beers, premium wine, and a whole lot of fun for the family. The Firemen’s Barbecue is a festive gathering and fundraiser for the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department and a favorite Memorial Day Weekend tradition in Marin. Keeping the nearly-50-year tradition going, local favorites Andre Pessis and his All-Stars were back to get the spirited crowd on the dance floor with their classic rock and R & B tunes. Wreckless Strangers, a collective of six seasoned Bay Area musicians known for their collaborative songwriting and high-energy live shows, kicked off the afternoon with their infectious blend of music they call "California Americana Soul." Instead of the traditional bouncy houses, climbing wall, etc, there was a "Kid's Zone" featuring games, face painting, bubbles and more!
Muir Beach firefighters and community members tended to smoky grills. Barbecue chicken and vegetarian tamale lunches, hand made desserts, plus sodas, beer and wine were available for purchase, as were clothing and other items featuring the famous Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department iconic dog logo. The day’s activities ended with a RAFFLE FOR 100 PRIZES that included fantastic accommodations, and gift certificates from popular Bay Area and beyond restaurants and attractions. See who the lucky winners were!
The Annual Firemen’s Barbecue is a fundraiser for the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department and donations and purchases of merchandise, food, beverages and raffle tickets are encouraged and appreciated. Parking is $30 per vehicle; carpooling is encouraged. There is a suggested donation of $10 for walk-in and bike-in attendees.
Covid protocols aligned with Marin County health guidelines. Please note that any interaction with the public poses a risk of exposure to COVID-19. We encourage folks to be fully-vaccinated and follow CDC recommendations.
Ever wonder why the live music at every Muir Beach Volunteer Firefighters BBQ is always so exceptionally good? Chalk it up to André Pessis! Year after year André recruits the musicians that are featured as "André's Allstars." They're André's friends and associates and they're long-time professionals. (Check out their websites!)
The world recognizes André as an Award Winning Songwriter (16 hits and in seven #1 albums), but Muir Beach folks know André as a home-boy...one of the initial Volunteer Firefighters (over 40 years ago)...and a long-time friend of the BBQ that provides most of the money that keeps the Volunteers going.
So that's why the music is so good. Come this year and see for yourself. And put your hands together for André and all his All-Stars. They rock!
