The 50th anniversary of the The Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department Annual Firemen's Barbecue tool place Sunday afternoon of Memorial Day Weekend, May 26, in Santos Meadows near Muir Beach and Muir Woods. Featuring delicious food, fantastic live music, tasty craft beers, premium wine, and a whole lot of fun for the family, the Firemen's Barbecue is a festive gathering and a favorite Memorial Weekend tradition in Marin and an essential fundraiser for the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department. This year, the MBVFD will break ground on a brand-new firehouse near the Muir Beach Overlook, and proceeds from the Barbecue will help fund the new building.
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary this year, the MBVFD was excited to welcome back beloved local funkster favorites Vinyl, who got the spirited crowd on the dance floor with their diverse and high-energy set. Keeping the 50-year tradition going, local favorites Andre's All-Stars (a collective of top-notch all-star musicians) kept the groove going with their classic rock and R&B tunes.
Muir Beach firefighters and community members tended to smoky grills. Barbecue chicken, crepes, vegetarian tamale lunches, handmade desserts, sodas, beer, and wine were available, as was clothing and other items featuring the famous Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department's iconic dog logo. The day's activities ended with a raffle of dozens of incredible prizes, including fantastic accommodations and gift certificates from popular Bay Area and beyond restaurants and attractions. See who won this year!
Entry/Parking fee was $30 per vehicle; carpooling encouraged. There was a $10 entry fee for non-vehicle attendees (walk-in and bike-in attendees).
Ever wonder why the live music at every Muir Beach Volunteer Firefighters BBQ is always so exceptionally good? Chalk it up to André Pessis! Year after year André recruits the musicians that are featured as "André's Allstars." They're André's friends and associates and they're long-time professionals.
The world recognizes André as an Award Winning Songwriter (16 hits and in seven #1 albums), but Muir Beach folks know André as a home-boy...one of the initial Volunteer Firefighters (over 40 years ago)...and a long-time friend of the BBQ that provides most of the money that keeps the Volunteers going.
So that's why the music is so good. Come this year and see for yourself next year. And put your hands together for André and all his All-Stars. They rock!
